The Kiswahili TTS system has been developed under the leadership of Dr Mucemi Gakuru at the University of Nairobi in Kenya.

The essential features of Kiswahili from a TTS point of view are described in this paper presented at the Lisbon LLSTI meeting in May 2004. Details of how the database was put together are in our E-tech2004 paper.

As for all our voices, the database is supplied separately and is not versioned as we do not expect it to change in the future, though it may be extended at some stage, in which case we will supply an incremental update. You may find that the gzip files are downloaded by Windows with the extension tar.tar. If this happens you will simply need to rename them back to .tar.gz.

Download Files:

UON_swahili_kw_v1.0.readme
UON_swahili_kw_v1.0.tar.gz
UON_swahili_kw_database.tar.gz

If you are on a slow or unreliable link you may prefer to download the database in smaller files (about 7 Mbytes each):
UON_swahili_kw_database0.tar.gz
UON_swahili_kw_database1.tar.gz
UON_swahili_kw_database2.tar.gz
UON_swahili_kw_database3.tar.gz
UON_swahili_kw_database4.tar.gz
UON_swahili_kw_database5.tar.gz
UON_swahili_kw_database6.tar.gz
UON_swahili_kw_database7.tar.gz
UON_swahili_kw_database8.tar.gz
UON_swahili_kw_database9.tar.gz
