The isiZulu TTS system has been developed under the leadership of Marelie Davel at CSIR in Pretoria, South Africa, with input from Prof Etienne Barnard, and much hard work from festival expert Aby Louw.

The process of building the system, along with all the contributions to LLSTI by CSIR, is described in their final report. They have also carried out an assesment of their system for use in voice information services, testing on both literate and illiterate isiZulu speakers.

As for all our voices, the database is supplied separately and is not versioned as we do not expect it to change in the future, though it may be extended at some stage, in which case we will supply an incremental update. The isiZulu system requires additional files for Festival. You may find that the gzip files are downloaded by Windows with the extension tar.tar. If this happens you will simply need to rename them back to .tar.gz.
